How To Remove 3 Drawer Lateral File Cabinets

Modern Filing Cabinets

Removing a 3 drawer lateral file cabinet sounds simple, right? Unfortunately, that may not always be the case. Triggering mechanisms vary greatly as each manufacturer, differentiating its patents from its competitors, has developed its own trigger devices. As the drawers are held in place by slides rather than hinges, removing a filing cabinet is not like removing a regular cabinet.

Instructions

Open the drawer so that it is fully extended. Use a flashlight to get a better view of the inside of the box. Look for the plastic tabs. Several 3 drawer lateral file cabinet manufacturers install the plastic mechanisms of the release tab which must be pushed up or down to release the box. Press up or down on the plastic tabs with the box open. Doing this can release the box.

Pull up on the drawer file cabinet while pressing up or down the tabs. This can require an extra set of hands, which drives two tabs while holding up a box can be quite difficult. Lift and pull the drawer if no tabs are visible. This may require several attempts. Move the drawer up and on each side while pulling out the drawer. Do not pull too hard, or the pictures will warp. Slide the drawer with the keyboard tray. You will probably have to wiggle it over the latch when you start, but then slide in and out smoothly.
